SMAM’ 45th SEASON: MORE THAN 14 REPRESENTATIONS IN MONTREAL!

For the 45th season, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal (SMAM), there is more music to enjoy than ever before with 10 concerts in total: six main season concerts and four intimate concerts. In the main season, we are working with three wonderful guest conductors. Edward Higginbottom will direct the North American premiere of François Couperin’s petits motets to celebrate the composer’s 350th birthday. Suzie LeBlanc will direct an all women performance for International Women’s Day featuring Renaissance and Baroque Italian music composed by women. And Lydia Adams joins us with the Elmer Iseler Singers for another spectacular 40-voice a cappella concert. We are also pleased to offer a collaboration with Arion Baroque Orchestra exploring the divine music of Henry Purcell, performances of festive Bach cantatas as part Salle Bourgie’s Complete Cantata series, and an extraordinary concert of Lamentations to open our new season, featuring some of the most moving Renaissance choral music ever written. Our new intimate concerts are a showcase for musicians who work with SMAM. The four contrasting programmes allow us to feature rarely heard works which would not normally find their way into the main season due to their reduced scale. With so many musical gems ahead.
