PRESENTATION

As part of the complete sacred cantatas of J.S. Bach series undertaken by Bourgie Hall over eight years ago, the SMAM will perform four works focused on the faithful’s unconditional confidence in divine protection. Dating to Bach’s first years in Leipzig, BWV 68, God so loved the world, evokes the Redemption and the promise of eternal life; BWV 104, You Shepherd of Israel, hear, convinces the listener that Christ watches over us; and BWV 136, Examine me, God, and know my heart, shows that he also offers an assurance of strength and justice. Bach composed the more intimate BWV 196, The Lord is mindful of us, at the age of 23, for the wedding of a minister friend.

In collaboration with Bourgie Hall
