SUMMARY

On the program for our participation in the Arte Musica Foundation’s complete Bach cantatas project this year are three masterpieces evoking faithfulness, peace, and love, featuring an opulent orchestra fortified with trumpets and timpani. The cantata God is our confidence BWV 197, with its powerful opening chorus, was written for the wedding of a high-ranking couple who have remained anonymous; BWV 126, Sustain us, Lord, with your word, promises peace and good government to faithful believers; while BWV 59, Whoever loves me will keep my word, composed for Pentecost, describes, in the form of a dialogue, the soul’s love for Jesus.

Presented as part of the complete concert presentation of the sacred cantatas of J. S. Bach.
