Some of the most beautiful motets written by Giovanni Gabrieli and Claudio Monteverdi will bookend the short but poignant oratorio\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">Jephte,\u00a0Giacomo Carissimi\u2019s most well-known sacred history. The biblical hero had promised God he would sacrifice the first person he would see upon his return from the war, should he be victorious. But to his greatest misfortune, that person turned out to be\u00a0<span class=\"m5305359937759403420gmail-s1\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: -.1pt;\">his own daughter\u2026 The episodes<\/span><\/span>\u00a0briskly succeed one another, and after the celebration of victory and Jephte\u2019s dismay, the work concludes with his beloved daughter\u2019s sublime
