SUMMARY

Rome, 1562. Palestrina admires the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica, whose dome has yet to be completed. In the composer’s hands lies a score destined to define an era. The Missa Papae Marcelli embodies a new ideal, where polyphony serves the clarity of the text. Performed by 16 voices a cappella, this Mass, framed by motets and a Magnifi-
cat, reveals a music explores music that is mysterious, solemn, and full of hope.
