SUMMARY

Despite its undeniable originality, we often forget just how important Spanish music is in the 17th century repertoire. To get to know it a bit better, here are various vocal and instrumental compositions—sometimes unrestrained, sometimes poignant, embellished with castanets and other surprises—all of which evoke different facets of women’s lives as well as the beauty of Iberian nature, its fauna, flora, and seaside landscapes.
