On August 27, 1521, one of the greatest names in the history of music, whose renown has never diminished, passed away: Josquin des Prez. Beyond his masterful handling of the most complex contrapuntal techniques, inherited from his predecessors, Josquin introduced a new form of expression to the art of sound, one that aimed to convey the meaning of the words being sung. In his work, melodic nimbleness, harmonic scale, textural variations, and the individualization of each composition are used to realize the humanist ideals of the Renaissance through music.
